WHY WE LOVE SNAPPER HOUSE!
"There’s something special about our home that’s hard to put into words — but we’ll try.
From the moment you arrive at Snapper House, a 2017 modern build, you feel a sense of calm. Maybe it’s the peaceful street, the friendly neighbours in Snapper Court, or the gentle sounds of local wildlife – wallabies, echidnas, rosellas, and cockatoos regularly drop by. We’re tucked into a quiet corner of Rhyll, just a short walk to the foreshore, the general store, post office, and one of the best nature walks on the island — the Rhyll Inlet.
The outdoor spaces are where we find ourselves most days. Our wide back deck is perfect for laid-back BBQs with family and friends or simply relaxing with a drink in hand. The six-person heated spa is a favourite all year round, and when the sun hits the fire pit patio in the afternoon, it’s magic. We’ve got raised veggie beds, a chicken coop, and a pretty rose garden surrounded by an English box hedge.
Inside, it’s all about comfort and connection. Every bedroom has its own en-suite, so whether it’s just us or a house full of guests, everyone has their own space. The master suite overlooks the lush back garden — it’s the first thing we see in the morning, illuminated by the first rays of the sun.
We love our guests’ breakfast room, warmed by the two-way gas log fire that also adds a cosy touch to the living room. The kitchen and butler’s pantry with a sink are beautifully designed — cooking here is easy and there’s room for everything and everyone. The dining area fits a big table where we share food and stories with friends.
And it’s not just charming — it’s practical. There’s split system heating and cooling in every room, plenty of power points (including USB ports in the bedrooms), and solar panels and double-glazing help keep our energy bills down. The polished timber Tasmanian oak floor is a highlight of this beautiful home. The garage has easy access through the back gate and there’s loads of space for parking out front. There’s even a ramp to the front deck, making access easy for everyone.
We’ve hosted guests, friends, and family here — and for the past seven years, we’ve run Snapper House as a successful traditional Bed & Breakfast. The house just works, whether it’s a quiet weekend or a full house of visitors. It’s easy to share because there’s space to be together, and space to be alone. This incredible home offers ample storage throughout the home.
Best of all, Rhyll feels like a hidden gem. A small and quiet hamlet with beautiful parks, BBQ areas, tennis courts, and playgrounds our grandkids love. And when we want to head into town, Cowes is just a 10-minute drive away."
